Cayambe

We are back in Quito for the night and then off to climb Chimborzo. We are running on almost no sleep in the last 60 hours. We successfully got out of Quito hangovers and all with food and a bus. We had to do most of our grocery shopping in a gas station bc everything was closed. Im sure we avoided hydrogenated oils with that one. We had to take a bus and then hire someone on the side of the road who owns a truck to take us 1.5 hours up to the refugio. When we got to the refugio we were apauled to find out that it cost 18 bucks a night. We decided we would pay for one night and sleep outside with no tent the next night.
We gained quite a bit of altitude so we were all feeling it some. So we had to leave the refuge at 4, so we wouldnt have to pay again. Everyone staying there thought we were cheap as hell, well i guess we kind of are. So we found some rocks to block the wind and slept at 15,000 feet with no tent, stove and luckily without any rain. It was pretty cold, actually cayambe is on the equator and is the only place at 0 degrees that reaches below 0 degrees. Surprisingly we got a couple hours of sleep and started out around midnight. Ricky was feeling really sick from the altitude, and not to mention just flying in from China. So after a few hours, she decided to hang out while brian and i climbed. We summited when the sun was rising around 6, and i think we stayed on the summit for 30 seconds. It was really windy and we couldn`t see anything. It was a pretty straight forward climb to 5,789 meters or 18,996 feet. We then returned to the refuge where the ranger hated us and charged us a dollar to hang out for an hour. Then we called the truck and I got bombed with dust while Ricky and Brian took naps up front.
It hopefully will help us be ready for Chimborazo which about 22,000. We head off tomorrow and summit day should be early sat. We will let you know when were down safely. Now it is time for bed, we´re fading fast.
