The southern end of the Americas

What a great last week we had. We started by taking a bus into Torres del Paine National Park and had to take a boat to the trailhead. The lake we had to cross was an amazing turquoise color that made us feel like we were in the Caribbean with snowy peaks in the background. The first day we only hiked for about 4 hours to a refuge next to a massive glacier where we camped with plenty of mosquito's. It got pretty cold at night time, but since there were three of us staying in a two man tent in wasn't such a problem. The following day we walked about 20 miles until our legs wouldn't carry us any further. The following day we did the same thing up to a camp site by picture three. We slept about an hour walk from the torres and woke up at sunrise to hike to the lookout (picture 3). After our morning hike we had to head down the mountain to catch the bus back to town, but on the way we detoured to stop for a few well deserved beers. Of course, we lost track of time and had to practically run our last 7 kilometers to catch the bus. Not to worry we made it with 2 minutes to spare. It is a really amazing trek that should not be missed by anyone traveling to s America.

We headed into town to find somewhere we could celebrate Halloween. We found a karaoke bar and went dressed in strange combinations from our bags with bathing suits over the tops. I think that we were the only people dressed up in the whole bar. Maybe one or two others, before we know it they are forcing us to be in dance contests on the stage. We all know that we are the not the greatest dancers, so it really was quite a funny sight.

Now we are in Ushuaia, Argentina the southern most city in the world. We will spend a few days here before catching a plane back to Buenos Aires. Until then...
